As a young child I used to fall asleep soon after eating Kentucky Fried Chicken for dinner with my family. I literally couldn’t keep my eyes open; now I understand my body just couldn’t process the junk food. I also had toast every morning for breakfast and a glass of milk, and photos show I had a puffy face throughout those young school years. Of course dietary education was very basic in Australia in the 1970s and nobody understood food intolerances.
As a young adult I continued to struggle trying to find a balanced relationship with food. I experienced the pitfalls of the diet merry-go-round and have dedicated much of the past decade to finding a healthier way of eating and being fit and healthy. I can help you because I have been there!
I was a ballet dancer from ages 7-23 and fought an ongoing battle with body image. I was tall (5’9″) for a dancer and not small boned, and never felt thin enough. Even when, at age 16, I was borderline anorexic, I had no concept of what my body actually looked like. Later when I was dancing professionally it was still a love/hate relationship with my body and with food. The ultimate aim was to look as ethereal as possible, and to eat as little as possible! I loved the beauty in the sacrifice, and being very thin and having control felt amazing, but I was denying my body, not feeding it – I was not strong and it wasn’t sustainable.
I also had grand mal epilepsy from age 12 stemming from a head injury bicycle accident years earlier. After having multiple episodes a year, I was one of the lucky ones who grew out of the condition in my early 20s. However, years later when I decided to diet severely for a dance show my body was so depleted I reignited my epileptic tendencies. This was my turning point, my ground zero. I knew I couldn’t torture my body anymore and needed to find a healthier way of staying fit and slim.
I decided to get strong and started training for fitness competitions. You can check out my athlete profile here!
The best part of this decision was that I learned about two amazing ‘food groups’ that I had never been aware of – protein and greens!! Scarily nobody had ever mentioned how important they were for body composition and cellular health. Suddenly, and I mean within a few days, my life changed forever. My mental clarity sky rocketed and it felt like I had been released from the chains of food – no longer did I feel like a victim to my circumstances. I felt free and light for the first time in my life. My curiosity about the power of clean food was intoxicating and I enrolled in the Holistic Health Coaching program at Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York. I am now a practising health coach working with clients across the globe, and the rest is history!
Food became a source of nourishment for my body, no longer the enemy. I felt in control and no longer a slave or victim of food. I discovered there were many processed foods that were toxic for my digestion and that the trick was to learn to eat the right foods to heal my body, to become an intuitive eater. Soon joint pain and headaches disappeared and my body naturally started shedding excess fat.
I am such a different person today because of my journey! So what lessons did I learn?
- I drank too much coffee
- I was addicted to bread and pastries
- I ate low fat products (which were high in sugar)
- I didn’t eat lean protein or good fats
- I could go many days without eating anything green!
- I was always negative and self conscious about my body no matter what weight I was
- I had a diet mentality and would yo-yo between dieting and overeating
- I was anxious and unable to be present
- I would wake up groggy each morning
- I exercised everyday and hated it
And what did I change?
- I stopped eating processed bread and processed food in general
- I started eating fresh fruit and vegetables
- I had two nutrient dense green smoothies each and every day
- I included lean protein in every meal
- I reduced my coffee consumption
- I upped my water intake
- I exercised smarter
- I listened to what my body needed
Once I started eating intuitively, my body responded immediately. It became natural and unencumbered. And I felt empowered because I had freed myself from my obsession with food.

I received my training as a Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s cutting-edge Health Coach Training Program.
During my training, I studied over 100 dietary theories, practical lifestyle management techniques, and innovative coaching methods with some of the world’s top health and wellness experts. The course is based in New York City and my teachers included incredible health experts such as Deepak Chopra, Dr John Douillard, Dr Mark Hyman, and David Wolfe.
My education has equipped me with extensive knowledge in holistic nutrition, health coaching, and preventive health. Drawing on these skills and my knowledge of different dietary theories, I run my Health Results Coaching working with clients to help them make lifestyle changes that produce real and lasting results, releasing them from the chains of lethargy and food addiction.
